FAQ

CANDLE REFILLS

Can I use a Mysa Candles candle refill in another container I have at home?

We recommend only using our candle refills in the LOT.ceramics, ceramic containers marked “tailored for Mysa Candles” on the bottom. These are carefully shaped and size to ensure the candle burns properly – we can’t guarantee the same for any other container.

How should I clean our my LOT.ceramics container?

When your container is ready to be cleaned out, the residual wax at the bottom of the container and the small metal wick clip should be removed and discarded (usually a spoon works well to gently loosen the wax and clip). Once most of the remaining wax has been removed, the container can be washed by hand or in the dishwasher. Note – these containers are also microwave safe, once the metal clip has been removed.

Where can I find candle refills for my LOT.ceramics container?

Many of our retail partners carry refills (we’ve noted which ones carry refills on the Find Us. Refills can also be ordered through our online shop.

CANDLE BURNING

How can I get my candle to burn as long as possible?

Maximize your candle’s burn time by burning it long enough (2-4 hours) to allow the wax to melt to the edge of the container.  This will prevent “tunneling”, where the candle burns a tunnel down the middle of the candle without burning to the edge of the container. Allowing the wax to melt to the edge of the container is especially important for the first burn of a new candle.

Gently pinch the ash / burnt wood off the top of the wick before re-lighting for optimal wick performance.

Why doesn't my candle burn until the wax is completely gone?

We use wick clips that self-extinguish the wick at the right length to ensure a safe candle burn from beginning to end.  Otherwise, the glass could become too hot and risk breaking, causing a mess/hassle and a fire risk.  When your candle is finally finished, we’d rather you get to look forward to mixing a relaxing beverage in the whiskey glass than needing to clean up broken glass and worrying about a fire hazard.

How should I clean out my whiskey glass?

When you’ve finished your whiskey glass candle, there will still be a little bit of wax and a wick clip in the bottom of the container.  We recommend placing the whiskey glass on a cookie sheet and into your oven set to its lowest temperature.  Once the wax has melted, remove from the oven and carefully wipe the wax out with a paper towel.  Wash the glass in warm, soapy water to remove any residue & add to your glassware collection.

CANDLE MAKING

How do you make your scents?

We blend our own combinations of essential oils & fragrances.  We use only high-quality, phthalate-free fragrances.

Where do you make your candles?

We hand craft all of our candles with love in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Why do you use soy wax?

We choose 100% soy wax because it burns cleanly (candle waxes containing paraffin, a petroleum by-product, release toxins & soot when they burn). Conveniently, soy wax also tends to have a longer burn time than other candle waxes due to its low melting temperature.

Do you collaborate with other makers?

Yes – follow us on Instagram/Facebook for new collaborations in the works, or be among the very first to know by joining our mailing list.

Do you make unscented candles?

We sure do! We’ve crafted our Naken (“naked” in Swedish) candles for the moments you’d like a candle without scent, but still want the cozy crackle of a wood wick candle – whether you’re sensitive to scents, or want to enhance the ambiance of a flavourful meal without a competing candle scent.
